The origins of Pride Month can be traced back to the Stonewall Riots of 1969, a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the LGBTQ community in response to a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York City. The riots are widely considered to be a turning point in the LGBTQ rights movement, and Pride Month is now celebrated as a way to commemorate the progress that has been made since then.
