Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a proposal for a permanent ceasefire, while Hamas has warned that the ongoing fighting could lead to further escalation. The developments come amid ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire between the two sides.
Netanyahu said in a statement that Israel would only agree to a "complete and unconditional" ceasefire, and that it would not accept any conditions from Hamas. Hamas, on the other hand, has said that it will not agree to a ceasefire unless Israel lifts the blockade on the Gaza Strip.
The fighting between Israel and Hamas has continued for more than two weeks, and has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people. The United Nations has called for an immediate ceasefire, and international leaders have been urging both sides to de-escalate the violence.
It remains to be seen whether the two sides will be able to reach an agreement on a ceasefire. If they do not, the fighting could continue indefinitely, with potentially devastating consequences for both Israelis and Palestinians.
