Jamaican Sprint Icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Withdraws from Olympics with Injury
Accomplished Sprinter and Olympic Champion Forced to Sit Out Due to Health Concerns

Jamaican sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has withdrawn from the Olympic 100m competition before her semi-final at Paris 2024 on Saturday due to injury. The 37-year-old athlete, who has won gold medals in the 100-meter race at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2012 London Olympics, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, had been one of the favorites to win the event again in Paris.
Fraser-Pryce, known affectionately as the "Pocket Rocket" due to her diminutive stature and explosive speed, released a statement through her management team saying that she had been struggling with a hamstring injury in recent weeks and that she had made the difficult decision to withdraw from the competition in order to focus on her recovery.
"I'm really disappointed to have to withdraw from the Olympics," Fraser-Pryce said. "I've been working so hard for this and I was really looking forward to competing in Paris. But I have to listen to my body and I know that I'm not ready to run at my best right now."
Fraser-Pryce's withdrawal is a major blow to the Jamaican team and to the Olympics as a whole. She is one of the most decorated sprinters in history and her absence from the 100m final will be felt by fans around the world.
