Pima County Sheriff Suspends Deputy for Use of Excessive Force

Deputy Involved in Shooting of Unarmed Man

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has announced the suspension of a deputy involved in the shooting of an unarmed man. The deputy, whose name has not been released, was responding to a call about a suspicious person in a neighborhood when he encountered the man, who was carrying a metal pipe.

Shooting Under Investigation

According to the sheriff's office, the deputy ordered the man to drop the pipe, but he refused. The deputy then fired his gun, striking the man in the leg. The man was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting is under investigation by the Pima County Sheriff's Office and the Tucson Police Department. The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Sheriff Nanos Statement

"I am deeply concerned about this incident and have ordered a thorough and independent investigation," Sheriff Nanos said. "We are committed to transparency and accountability, and we will release more information as it becomes available."

The shooting has sparked outrage in the community, with many residents calling for the deputy to be fired. A protest is planned for this weekend outside the Pima County Sheriff's Office.
